Our Mission

We dare to do ministry in such a way that reaches and impacts the upper east side, the city of New York and beyond with the radical claims of the gospel of Jesus Christ through our worship and our witness as we strive to build and model the beloved community of God.

  • We are a church of unity. We were called into being as Christians working for and celebrating the unity of the church.
  • We are a church of diversity. We are respectful and encouraging of informed and individual approaches to faith.
  • We are a non-creedal church. Together we only confess the belief in Jesus Christ.
  • We are a sacramental church. Weekly celebration of the Eucharist is central to our worship life.

Our Purpose

To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in worship, sacrament and service in faithful response to God's will and purposes; to journey in faith, bringing the gospel message, especially that of peace, justice and the care of God's creation, to bear upon society; to sustain and be sustained by the general and regional manifestations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); to work cooperatively with Christians in other communions; to seek the oneness of the body of Christ; and to promote interfaith understanding.

Our purpose is further affirmed in this congregation's commitment to Christ's call to love God with all that we are and our neighbor as ourselves.

To that end this congregation is open to and affirming of all people whatever their gender, race, age, culture, ethnic background, sexual orientation, religious tradition, economic circumstance, family configuration or difference in ability.

We honor other holy histories and respect those who profess no faith or have chosen different paths to the sacred.  We affirm the love of Christ in our lives, and we welcome everyone into this community and invite them to share in its life and ministry.

In response to the grace which Christ has given to us, we glorify God, we commit ourselves to growth in the Spirit, and we rejoice in the worth, gifts and dignity of every person as a child of God.
